The Germans have four violin concertos

"The most inward, the heart's jewel, is Mendelssohn's."

Only four? That was Joachim who said that, wasn't it. He must have excluded Austria, in which case I'm wondering if he included the Beethoven Concerto. And Mozart's concertos aren't anything to turn your nose up at. And, of course, he would have missed the two greatest violin concertos of the 20th century, the Berg and Schoenberg concertos. I wish the BSO would release the recording of the Schoenberg that Joseph Silverstein played, one of the greatest performances I ever heard.
