Happy Ishtar!

I fucking hate Facebook memes for this reason:

The general rule of infographics and similar fare is that the more deliciously it skewers people you don't respect very much, the more likely it is to be a fake.  Always good to consider before you click that "share" button.

Wish Buzzfeed would do a "Which Fake Graphical Meme Are You?" quiz...

I have to admit, I liked the "Most Christians know this" part of that post.

I'm really tired of comments by "atheists" telling me my Christianity isn't pure because of Plato or Saturnalia or Ishtar. Mostly because they don't know what they are talking about, mostly because they aren't telling me anything I didn't know by the age of 15.

Honestly, they're more concerned with the "holiness" (purity) of my religious beliefs and practices than I am. Never have figured that one out, but it's a psychological puzzler.

Oh, and the problem with "Eostre" as the root of "Easter" is that "Eostre" is only mentioned by the Venerable Bede. We have no other source for this "Teutonic Goddess." It may still be where the word came from in English, but the validity of the "pagan worship" and any association with the Christian observance, is pretty lame.

Especially since the observance of Easter is inextricably linked with the Jewish Passover.

I do love it that this started on Dawkins' Facebook page, however.
