Yes, Let's Beat Up On Independents!
I take issue with this:
Independents are by definition less engaged in electoral politics. They’ve opted out. They don’t caucus. They don’t doorbell. They don’t participate in the hard grassroots work that characterizes the very best of American politics.
Starting when I moved here in the early 90s, I was an independent when I voted in Vermont's open primaries. I worked hard for Kucinich in 2007/2008, then the Obama campaign, pretty much living in NH during the general campaign. And in 2010, I ran for state office as an independent.
Do many, if not most, self-identified indies tend to vote with one party or the other? Duh, it's a two-party system. Do a lot opt out? Duh, but so do partisans--recall how Democrats "stayed home" in 2010.
But good on ya trying to get these "people who can't make up their minds" to make up their minds and engage through shaming! That should convince them that Democrats and liberals are so very, very right.
