Justice And Empathy
On my way home from class, I heard an interesting talk with Justice Sotomayor at the Commonwealth Club of California. One statement made almost at the end, while speaking of the difference between deciding cases at lower levels and SCOTUS, really struck me (not quite verbatim):
In every case there's a losing party, and no matter how good an answer you provide [for why you think your answer is right], someone is going to feel there's been injustice."
Damn her empathy!
