As We Knew Him: Old Man Of The Sea
Leaving Portland, OR, for our Epic Journey across the country in 2008.
Below the fold are way too many pictures in no particular order, that are representative of our dear Old Man Neptune in life. I did in fact cull these from all the available photos, but there were obviously a lot I just couldn't bear to not post.
Misbehaving in the Badlands.
Being attacked by his plushy little brother.
Is Mommy home from work?
A walk in the meadow.
You will open the door now.
Wearing the Bad Dog Bandana.
A nice walk with Mex.
Now Neppy can take walks again with dear departed Vinnie.
Been a long time since they could play chase.
Even today of all days, there was an extra spring in the blind/deaf dog's step when I said into his ear, "wanna go for a ride?" Oddly, that made me glad.
Mex always got out first through wise door positioning.
He came by his name honestly.
Hurry up and throw another stick!
Kayla and Nep often set each other off, even as his hearing faded.
Yup, a Romney supporter.
I like to think a younger, sprier Neppy is rolling in the Great Meadow.
Bad dogs have to wait until Daddy takes their picture before being let inside.
Gonna miss having a full Pack.
Thanks for the sammich, Mommy!
Would there, perhaps, be any more?
Look out, Taran!
So happy the City Dog adjusted to Country Dog life.
Everybody sharing the dog bed whilst eating cookies.
He especially loved snow.
Believe it or not, Neppy really didn't like having his picture taken.
You didn't want this chair, right?
Sam's toys were always a bane for the Old Man.
That was a significant amount of snow.
Strike a pose!
Dashing through the snow...
Very happy Sadie got to meet Neptune, even if she won't remember him. We'll always have this.
We miss you, Neppy.

Very sorry about your loss of Neptune. What a good dog! I hope he and my Tucker are back-rolling together in the sunny Great Meadow.

I will always think of Neppy with a muzzle covered in snow, chasing around the meadow. What a great, furry, smiling, gentle beast he was.

Having to let a beloved dog go is one of the hardest things in life. They love and trust you so much and you always remember. Hugs to all of the family.

Thank you all for the comments here and on Facebook. It's always amazing how many people have actually met Neppy and/or been touched by his virtual presence.
I kept the back deck light on for him last night in memorial, even though there was no need to help him out to potty in the middle of the night. It was weird to not worry about his shots this AM. Yet both Ericka and I heard him asking for help and walking around. Gonna be a while before we get used to the empty...
