What Have The Greeks Ever Done For Us?
Sam was poking around some crates of old books, and found an ancient in-class assignment from my dead Greek philosophers course, written in psycho killer scrawl:
What the Greeks gave us:
- The Olympics
- Concept of Democracy
- roots for a bunch of words
- logic
- science in general
- the beginnings of atomic theory
- some woefully incorrect notions about Man's dental condition (Aristotle: men have more teeth than women) [got a smiley for that one]
- catharsis
- classes which philo majors must take (their greatest contribution in history, I might add) [another smiley]
- Socratic method
It was, I admit, one of my least favorite classes--loved the prof, but just never warmed to these guys despite my understanding that we're indebted to them for a lot:
I always had more of an affinity for dead German philosophers. Anyway, thanks Sam, for the reminder from many lifetimes ago...

"What Have The Greeks Ever Done For Us?" Well, one of them posts frequent intelligent comments and useful links to my threads. I'll forgive her for using a French nom de blog...
