Fucking Parents, Making Choices
Ericka and I were talking about how annoying many of the lefty blogs have been regarding Hilaryrodengate. I've been meaning to do a post about it, but it's such a lovely day that I've lost a great deal of interest in knocking down the judgemental, snotty and otherwise ignorant shit being posted. I'll just say this:
- Amanda, like Rosen, certainly has a nugget of truth here, but I don't find anybody who gets most of her exposure to parenting from STFU Parents to be very credible and her choice of words leaves a lot to be desired.
- Rude adds a clarification to his original post, but still paints with a great broad brush and dismisses the difficulty and value of staying at home.
- Jessica, unsurprisingly, pretty much nails it.
There is one thread that is common to all three pieces, though, that particularly annoys me: it's understandable that since the topic is Ann Romney, people are focusing on SAHMs, but you know there's a not-insignificant number of fathers who make choices, too. A lot of what's at stake aren't just "women's issues" but "parents' issues" and "families' issues." We might all be better served if pundits and politicians acknowledged that.
