The Right (Way) To Dissent

Fucking fascists:

An American flag flown upside down as a protest in a northern Wisconsin village was seized by police before a Fourth of July parade and the businessman who flew it — an Iraq war veteran — claims the officers trespassed and stole his property.
...
Marinette County Sheriff Jim Kanikula said it was not illegal to fly the flag upside down but people were upset and it was the Fourth of July.

"It is illegal to cause a disruption," he said.
...
Village President John Deschane, 60, an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, said many people in town believe it's disrespectful to fly the flag upside down.

"If he wants to protest, let him protest but find a different way to do it," Deschane said.

It is left as an exercise for the reader to determine what's wrong with this story...

In 1969, I was a patriot who became incensed about anyone disrespecting the flag in the anti war demonstrations that I attended.

After 11 months plus in the Nam, I had a thick flag for a carpet, another to cover my water bed and a small silky one for polishing my car.

Had one run in with a cop who came up to me and told me I couldn't use my flag as a rag. I told him that I did 11 plus months in war that I was totally against and that he could go get his DD214 and show me that he pulled time in the Nam and I would discuss it otherwise, he could just simply leave that I had paid all the dues that I was going to pay.

Hell, if I could have found them cheap enough, I'd have used it as toilet wipe.
