Moral High Ground
Archbishop Tutu suggests using violence to remove Mugabe:
Tutu, the retired archbishop of Cape Town, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and anti-apartheid campaigner, told BBC radio he was "ashamed" of his homeland.
He suggested that South Africa had surrendered the "moral high ground" which it gained in the post-apartheid era.
...
Tutu raised the prospect of using violence to remove Mugabe."If Mr Mugabe remains obdurate and as intransigent as he has been about the formation of this government of unity, then he must be asked to step down," he said.
"If he refuses, I really do believe that we have to invoke this new doctrine of responsibility to protect".
Asked whether that meant using force to remove Mugabe, Tutu said: "Yes, yes, or certainly the threat of it".
...
Tutu said he hoped "against hope" that the African Union would take action, adding that some parties "can be shamed into taking a more firm stance", including South Africa.
As the namesake of another peace prize awarded to Tutu said, do or die...

Are you saying Tutu's wrong?

Nope. You'll see on the "do or die" link that Gandhi also preferred violence over impotence...

That this man of peace would make such a call is stunning. I have met him and broken bread with him, and I am still having trouble finding my breath.
That said, however, I understand the frustration, and the link which you provided, NTodd, does place the call within an understandable context.
I still weep, however, because I know what this declaration must have cost The Very Rev. Tutu.

How bad, how unspeakably BAD, must conditions in Zimbabwe be, when Desmond Tutu is calling for, essentially, armed intervention to remove Mugabe.
One of my Real Player favorites is the BBC World Service, which is often streamed for hours at a time, here in Slovenly Tucker Hovel. Even though BBC reporters are not allowed inside Zimbabwe, information IS getting out.
And yes, it IS unspeakably bad inside Zimbabwe.
