Assmussen Snippet

Obama's down to a 5 point lead today, but it will be interesting once again to see how the debate impacts the numbers once the 3-day data is included.  Something that leaped out at me:

Obama now leads by 13 points among women but trails by two among men.

So Obama's closing the Man Gap with Gramps as he maintains his overall national and EV lead.

Watching the debate on Tuesday, it was instructive to see the reaction meters CNN provided for the undecided voters.  McCain was generally in the negative because he spent so much time attacking Obama, whilst THAT ONE would perhaps take issue with something the arrogant white old man had said, or briefly paint the contrast between their policies and his ratings remained positive for the most part.  More telling, though, was that when he spoke of a problem to address and the motivations behind a policy the women's line went up and the men line went down a bit, and then as he starting talking about details, the men's line caught up.

This might explain why Obama's consistently had a large lead with women overall and has been chipping away at McCain's slim lead with men.  I guess women immediately pick up on the human, feeling aspect Obama communicates (and stay for the solutions and snacks), then the men snap up the problem-solving aspect.  Paging Deborah Tannen.
