Wow

Salim, who has been my roomie since Sunday, is from Kenya.

Coumba from Senegal and Clariste from Cameroon.

Bilal (from Mali) and the ladies joined us Monday morning.
Been a lot of fun having them around because they are each involved in different types of activism, from environmental to children's rights to immigration issues to the slave trade. Many languages flying around, too: English, French, Spanish, and a couple African languages including Wolof.
I learned from Coumba that her name basically means 'essence of woman' in that language. Many towns are named "Coumba XYZ" after particular female spirits, I guess like San Diego and whatnot are named after saints. And the way one might thank a woman is to say, 'waw coumba.'
So waw coumba to her and thanks to all our new friends for teaching us so much on their way to the YES World Jam in Peru!
