Relief

I am redirecting monies saved this weekend from fasting (and not drinking booze) to the Red Cross for disaster relief.  Thanks to Monkeyfister for keeping the swarm going.  And here's a picture of the tornado that missed his house:

Jeebus, Auntie Em, get the fuck back in the cellar!

The Lakota people have used fasting as an important component of vision questing for generations. In her classic work, Buffalo Woman Comes Singing, Brooke Medicine Eagle writes that when we fast we create a vacuum in the left-brained part of our consciousness. “By our very nature,” she notes, “something else will come in to fill that space.” For Brooke, this vacuum is then filled with the gifts of the right brain, such as dreams, visions, clairvoyance, astral travel and revelation.

“The fast,” she writes, “seems to work the same way with all people. It is a brilliant tool for opening ourselves to the Great Mystery and to the Source of Life within our own being.” In discussing how to fast, Brooke Medicine Eagle cautions that we not do so “as a punishment or a sacrifice, but as a joyful way to call upon another part of yourself, a way to awaken to Spirit's voice within you.”

Well, NTodd,

I thank you MIGHTILY!

And as promised, I AM fasting today right along with you. When I saw your GROWL post, I was right there with you.

I forgot to eat Thursday night, as I was tending to this fundraising business, and when I looked at the clock, it was nearly midnight. Went to bed, woke up waaaay late, rushed in to work, got SLAMMED with stuff until late, had a meeting with my local Kroger's Store Manager to discuss a food donation to the United Way Mid-South Food Bank Network. They were receptive. Just got home.

No eats for me. At least I was busy throughout the day, and have good ol' Catholic experience in fasting to get me through.

Consider our deal sealed, buddy. Email me your address again. I'll send you something to make up for the lost calories.
