Curious Lola Goes To The Hospital
Whoohoo! Lola gets to spend the night with the lady vets!
I didn't want to worry anybody, but when I got home from Liberal Mountain it was clear that he had continued to lose weight and had been horking up icky stuff. We went to the vet this morning and after his initial exam Dr Gamache discussed options with me. Last visit the other doc and I had decided to hold off on x-rays and blood work, instead going for the most likely causes first. We escalated this time.
Sure enough, there's an obstruction that Dr Macho probably didn't feel before because the boy hadn't lost 1.5 lbs at that point. It looks like a maple leaf, appropriately enough, so I'm hopeful we'll be able to tap his stomach and make some syrup this spring for a little extra income. Anyway, Da Tail is staying overnight under observation, they'll do another x-ray first thing in the AM and if the thing isn't moving on its own (most likely won't), he goes under the knife to have it removed.
The experience reminded me of Curious George:
My guess is it's a piece of one of Kayla's tennis balls that she demolished. Or maybe one of my hira shurikens (I'm always leaving those and my nunchaku lying around). Oh, it could be Iraq's WMD, or even the missing e-mails from the 18-day gap. We'll find out tomorrow!

[Update: the worst part of this right now is Vinnie hasn't stopped yowling, presumably missing his brother, since I got home...]
['nother update: I just have to say thanks not only for the good wishes, but also to the folks sending money for Lola's vet bills. I wasn't going to ask for donations, though it will likely be pricey and I might be out of a job in the next few months, so I can't describe in human words how much I appreciate the kindness. I guess with 5 animal companions I should seriously consider pet insurance, but it would be weird if they had coverage and Daddy didn't!]

Poor sweetie. If it's just a toy in his tummy, then at least it's not too difficult to remedy.

Best wishes to Lola and you. Our Weimaraner also tends to eat things because he can, but things go through easier, too. Kidz will be kidz!

Shit. Piss. Fuck.
Not that I'm a diagnostician in the same class as the eeeeeevil Dr. Frist, but Da Tail's coat didn't look too healthy in the last few photos. Now, I know why. I'm hoping for a quick recovery, as the ol' munkihaid does tend to worry so.
My continued best to all.

Poor baby. Bestest of wishes for him. And poor Vinnie missing his bro.
And what is this about the job?

I can't donate anything for Lola now, but next month, there will be something enroute via PayPal.
Posted by: Chris Tucker | Mar 22, 2007 6:27:38 PM
Aw, poor Lola.
I'll be happy to hit paypal next month, along with flory. I kind of overdid it this month.
But I'm sending a huge amount of love and hugs to you both immediately.

Good thoughts to La la la la Lola. And to the worried critter sibs.
Re pet insurance. It may vary in other places, but I did a lot of research on it and came to the conclusion it cost about the same as keeping a credit card (or a sizable portion of available credit) available just for pet emergencies, so that's what I do instead. It's not the perfect solution though, especially for those without predictable regular income.

I'm so sorry teh tail is in the hospital, but it's nice to know they can get whatever it is out. I hope this is a lesson learned for Lola...but probably not. Animals eat the darndest things.
Now, that I'm caught up, I'm wondering if Mex is comforting Vin in the adorable pic above this post.

Oh poor Lo! Sure would be preferable if whatever that is passes on through on its own rather than going under the knife. Ugh. Hope it all comes out in the end.

NTodd! So sorry about the darling boy. Sending healing vibes your way.
And hoping your future is full of good fortune.

Poor LoLa! And poor NTodd, too. Shoot. Sorry I turned up late at the party, but Lola is always in my thoughts. So what's this about possible job loss, eh?

Re: the job:
[shrugs]
We're in the telecom sector, and it sucks ass. Unclear if we'll be around much longer--much is uncertain. I'm looking at it as an opportunity, if not a kick in the ass.
