Saturday Starblogging

Orion rising over the house.
A very starry, clear, cold night. Now all we need is the promised snow to actually materialize tomorrow...

Oooh, pretty.
What's the name of the three stars just to the southeast of Orion?

Orion has always been my favorite constellation.

Same here Soprano! I have a pic of it through a skylight when I stayed at a friend's house in London.

Sometimes I wish I could see more stars in the night sky from Los Angeles. I have friends who have to drive out to the desert to be able to use their telescopes.

Is there some significance to the alignment? I do not know but it is very beautiful.

tigre - I think those stars are officially part of Orion as well. I call them Orion's Swinging Cock.
Soprano - mine, too. I used to chat with him on my way back to the dorm after Chem Lab my frosh year. Uh...he didn't talk back.
Old man - ISO400, 34mm focal length, f4, 13s shutter.
charley - thanks! Yeah, it was odd, which is why I shot it. Saw the scene coming back with Mex from the meadow, and I was struck by the roof line and star lines. I wanted to capture something other than just the usual "hey, here's Orion."

This seems like a good spot to tell you I really enjoyed the Carl Sagan tribute podcast. I just got around to listening to it a couple days ago.
