A Focus Group Bush Will Heed
And thus Bush is granted cover in the media:
Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the rest of the Bush administration may be undecided on whether to send more troops to Iraq, but several soldiers he met with at Camp Victory here on Thursday morning here said extra forces would help.
"Sir I think we need to just keep doing what we're doing," Spc. Jason T. Green, with the 101st Military Intelligence Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division, told Gates during a breakfast session with about 15 U.S. soldiers.
Well, I guess we don't have to listen to the Joint Chiefs now, do we? Those dummies.

[Update: Bush should pay attention to this guy:
Corey Davis, a machine gunner with the Army's 2nd Infantry Division, has a simple description of what was expected of him during his yearlong tour of duty in Iraq.
"Pretty much," said Davis, who was assigned to protect a road used as a supply route, "our job was to get fired at or have IEDs [improvised explosive devices] blow up on us."
Davis left the Army in October and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Since he returned to the States in August 2006, he has been troubled by thoughts about the futility of day-to-day tactics in Iraq, where several of his friends died. "This was just for us to make the route secure. You would think a human being would be more valuable than a supply route ... What the hell did we do all that for?"
Ain't war hell?]

Of course an MI soldier wouldn't mind if he just "kept doing what he's doing!" These guys sit in air conditioned tents or buildings while the grunts are outside the Green Zone getting shot at and blown up by IEDs.
We used to call guys like them REMFs (military guys always have an acronym for everything); Rear Echelon Mother F***ers.
Just the kind of guy BushCo. would listen to.

Yeah, I noticed his MOS would keep him relatively safe and cozy. Figured that might make my former mil readers a bit upset, but I didn't want to be the one to call him a REMF!
