While We Were Out And About

We went to St J: tigre got a bunch of maple stuff, I bought Al Gore's inconvenient book at a non-BN/Borders downtown bookshop that has free wifi, and we saw that Snakes on a Plane is playing at 715pm so we hope to see it with NTodd's Pa Saturday.  Whilst we were away from our screaming fast dialup at the Fortress, we missed these two stories:

• I drove by this school Tuesday on my way to pick up my eclairs: A gunman shot five people Thursday, killing two of them, in a rampage through two houses and an elementary school that ended when he wounded himself, police said.
  
  One of the slayings occurred at the school, which was not in session. Police Chief David Demag said he could not confirm earlier reports that the victim was a teacher preparing for the start of classes next week.
  
  One television report said about 30 staff were in Essex Elementary School. At one point, people could be seen running from the school, ducking their heads.

• In light of that heathen humanist Bill's post earlier: The number of people who consider the Republican Party friendly to religion has dipped below half in the last year, with declines among white evangelicals and white Catholics.
  
  But the GOP remains far more closely tied to religion than the Democratic Party.
  
  The number of people who consider the GOP friendly to religion dropped from 55 percent to 47 percent — with a 14-point drop among white evangelical conservatives and an 11-point drop among white Catholics, according to the poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

Before this we had another Dogz-exhausting hike through the woods--they are currently asleep as the fire crackles.  Alas, we're running alarmingly low on wood, so hopefully NTodd's Pa will pick up a couple cord on his way here...
