Jesus Jumping Christ On The Trampoline Of Stupidity

Wait 'til Thers gets wind of Althouse's learned opinion on the NSA ruling.  The blogging banal bint must've gotten into some bad cheese and I'm beginning to suspect she's really 3 credits shy of her law degree, as it were.

ntodd

[Update:

Shorter banal-thouse: "The ruling against warrantless surveillance is not serious, and as a serious person, I should know."

Heh, indeed.]

[Update: Oh, excellent updates by Annie:

ADDED: I like the illustration -- by David Suter (not David Souter) -- with the gavel-as-microphone image.

UPDATE: I can see that a lot of people are missing the point of the op-ed... But I don't want to get out my sledgehammer, and I'm bored with telling people to calm down and reread it.

My own updates:

ADDED: I didn't like the color of Judge Diggs Taylor's robes.  Why so somber and black?

UPDATE: I'll bet that a lot of people won't get the point of my addition...

My next update will include an actual point about irony and other such legal analysis.]

[Final update: Atrios finally gives me a frontpage link, but isn't it ironic that he points to such an unserious post, then links to Greenwald?  I think he's just not serious and phoning it in these days, which makes him my Wanker of the Day.]

Nice post and good job on getting an Atrios link motherfucker! ;-)

Obviously, TODAY is the day the 12th Imam returns!

"He’s making an aggressive argument about the scope of his power under the law.

It is a serious argument, and judges need to take it seriously. If they do not, we ought to wonder why a court gets to decide what the law is and not the president."

Excuse me but what is the role of the judiciary?

I thought it was to interpret the law to determine constitutionality, but I may be wrong.

Was the times editor out yesterday? Or is it business as usual?

Peace!

"Jesus Jumping Christ On The Trampoline Of Stupidity"

I think this should be voted funniest blog post title of the year.

Wow maybe the world did end, Ntodd got a linky from Atrios! Good post bud.

Posted by: hisstoryman | Aug 23, 2006 9:45:49 AM

This woman does the worst Altmouse parody ever!

Posted by: dave | Aug 23, 2006 9:52:41 AM

Attaturk is unserious, as evidenced by his flippant use of the very unserious word, "motherfucker".

Posted by: ThomasAllen | Aug 23, 2006 9:56:57 AM

And, indeed, the president is not claiming he has powers outside of the Constitution. He isn’t arguing that he’s above the law. He’s making an aggressive argument about the scope of his power under the law.

To-may-to, to-mah-to.

fuck the new york times. that gave me headache. and i blame you ntodd, since i never would have known about this if you hadn't posted about it.

Laypeople consuming early news reports may well have thought, “What a courageous judge!” and “It’s a good thing someone finally said that the president is not above the law.”

i wonder how many laypeople, attributing gravitas to altmouse that she does not deserve but they percieve due to her scribbling this bullshit all over the hem of the gray lady's dress, will start thinking, gee, maybe this isn't a good thing after all.

fuck the new york times.

I read the op-ed, and I didn't see anywhere that it addressed the issues. It seemed far more concerned with the process than the legality of the acts in question.

And I have to say, as non-lawyer, that the Fourth Amendment etc. are such deep subjects that they are taught to eighth graders.

Posted by: Repack Rider | Aug 23, 2006 10:25:33 AM

And I dare say 8th graders do a much better job interpreting the 4th Amendment than bush apologists like altmouse & assrocket.

It's times like these I remember Paul Campos who, in the leadup to the Iraq war, wrote:

"Treating an argument as if it deserves to be taken seriously does not make it
so."

Posted by: Constantine | Aug 23, 2006 10:55:49 AM

The latest stupidity is that the right-wingers at Judicial Watch are trying to claim that since Judge Diggs has some distant ties to the ACLU, that she should have recused herself. Of course, Judicial Watch never asks Federalist Society judges to recuse themselves over anything.

Posted by: Phoenix Woman | Aug 23, 2006 10:58:41 AM

Greenwald has already eviscerated this line of argument... ouch.

Posted by: Thers | Aug 23, 2006 11:04:37 AM

It seems Althouse left out the part about where the President broke the FISA law.

Posted by: Jim Hudson | Aug 23, 2006 11:34:27 AM

Nice post, and all that, but I do have a question about your profile in the upper left.

How is it possible for the phrases 'non-obnoxious' and 'Tom Greenesque' to be written next to each other without the screen exploding?

the suffix "-esque" is grand and voluminous; it allows many contradictions to be contained within it.

Hmmmm. Some might consider that angle to be...um...esque.

Posted by: fourmorewars | Aug 23, 2006 11:53:51 AM

Maybe the judge didn't stick to the assigned topic. Altmouse hates that kind of thing.

Posted by: Arabella Trefoil | Aug 23, 2006 12:04:02 PM

Sorry, I tried to get quete.

Posted by: fourmorewars | Aug 23, 2006 12:04:28 PM

I told the traffic cop I wasn't breaking the speed limit, just making an aggressive argument about the top speed of my car under the limit.

He still wrote me a ticket.

"My own updates:

So you're saying, like, Althouse is prejudiced against the judge because the judge is black?

Posted by: kyle | Aug 23, 2006 12:30:12 PM

I think the goal was to present a statement with an obvious implication, then suggest that anybody who draws the obvious inference doesn't understand the original statement. Which is, more or less, how Althouse has responded to those who infer from her diatribe that she supports the Administration's position, while she insists she is in fact sitting on the fence and refusing to take sides.

Posted by: Aaron | Aug 23, 2006 1:22:37 PM

Wow. All the whining finally paid off I see. An actual front page link!!

My next update will include an actual point about irony and other such legal analysis.

I'm pretty sure the next post will be about dust bunnies. It's time.

Posted by: flory | Aug 23, 2006 1:52:50 PM

ooh, a link from that wanker atrios.

i seriously don't understand why we all hang out there.

i went directly to the source, glen greenwald. i love that blog. i know jack about the law, but one can tell he does. little annie blow'n it out her ass, not so much. i know i don't like secret government.

that pic she liked so much? looked a little racist to me. lot of that going around.

Man, I go off line for a moment and miss all of the excitement.

By the way - if you or watertiger likes mysteries - I had fun reading Margaret Maron's book Shooting at Loons. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0446404241

Now, what we really need are pictures of the eclairs! (by the way - it looks beautiful up there.)
