Nobody Could've Anticipated A Hezbollah Victory
Israeli troops pulled back from a Lebanese border town Saturday after a week of heavy fighting with Hezbollah guerrillas who hailed the retreat as a victory.
Gee, what did Uri Avnery say just two days ago?
Hizbullah is functioning and fighting. That by itself will go down in the annals of the Arab peoples as a shining victory.
When a featherweight boxer faces a heavyweight and is still standing in the 15th round - that is a victory, whatever the final outcome...
But not to worry:
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice returned to the Middle East to push a refined U.S. peace plan.
I wonder if that refined (new great look, same great taste!) peace plan contains Schroedinger's Cease-fire (you know, it's both alive and dead until observed)...

A few days ago, I mentioned "Masada" ... where Jewish people committed suicide rather than submit to Roman victory (and rule). The Jews even celebrate their oil lasting seven days rather than the single-day ration they had.
It makes me think of what Ronald Reagan said: "Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women."
Oh, terrorists are the most free of all, aren't they? Operating beyond and outside the law?

Nobody could have anticipated voting in a government-hating administration which then actually broke the country for good...

DP - yeah, I caught the Masada reference (I remember the miniseries on TV!). And it's a great comparison.
ellroon - I never did anticipate just how bad BushCo would truly be. Horrific.

Speaking of references, who's going to be the first pundit to mention role reversal and David and Goliath?

Looks like colonial Israel is going down and the US is gonna get dragged right down with that sinking ship.
