Thanks, Mom!

Whoohoo!

People are more likely to see their 100th birthday, research hints, if they were born to young mothers.

The age at which a mother gives birth has a major impact on how long her child will live, two researchers from the University of Chicago's Center on Aging told the Chicago Actuarial Association meeting this spring.

The chances of living to the ripe old age of 100 -- and beyond -- nearly double for a child born to a woman before her 25th birthday, Drs. Leonid Gavrilov and Natalia Gavrilova reported. The father's age is less important to longevity, according to their research.

Mom was a few months shy of 22 when I was born.  Wow, that means you folks are stuck with me for another six decades or so...

Well, I gues I'm screwed, Mom was 34 when she had me.

OTOH, I've made a vow not to die at least until the Cubs win the World Series. So I'll be around for a very long time.

I also thought there was something about how much smarter children were that had older parents. So I should have that going for me as well.

Buckeye -- you're only partially screwed. I'm screwed.....mom was 41 when she had me. Geez, my mom was nearly twice as old as NTodd's Pa's Wife.

Also means there's a whole generation coming up ain't gonna make it to that ripe old age, doesn't it?

You'll have to carry on without me, I suppose. My mother was 35 when I was born. But I'm the oldest, which makes me smartest - so I guess I'll die a young smartass?

Well, I'm doin' fine: my mom was a mere *cough* white trash *cough* 20. It's my children who are screwed. Sorry kids. But don't forget about adjusting for this century--have you forgotten? 40 is the new 20!! Maybe there's hope...

I've got you all beat: my mother was 17 when she had me.

Unfortunately, my father's side of the family all seem to drop dead around 50, while my mother's side lives on into their 90s. I could go tomorrow, or in 2050.

Flory, one of my dearest friends had her first, and only child, when she was 39 and 9 months. Her mother was 41 when she gave birth to my friend, and her mom had two more kids after her. So far, no signs of premature aging for she or her brothers.

I'll have to tell my older sisters that they may live longer than I. Then I'll laugh and point out that, at this point, I'm still younger!

Lol, Buckeye! My younger sister would end fights with the statement that I was going to die before she did. I finally have a comeback!

Gee, then my daughter is screwed -- she was born just before my 30th birthday. OTOH, my maternal line lives a long time (my grandmother lived to 93 and my mother fully intends to live that long, as do I), so she may have hope from that direction.
