Nasty Creatures, Rightwingers
Normally I don't do InstaWanker, but...
SOME THOUGHTS ON WHY SOME PEOPLE hate Jeff Goldstein. Personally, I've always blamed the armadillo. Nasty creatures, armadillos. They carry leprosy, you know.
As it turns out, it ain't the armadillo. Jeffy's just a stupid dick. And he carries leprosy. Caught it from The Perfesser, I hear.
ntodd
[Update: I've edited out refs to Thers' name and have closed comments because sam and all of Pasty's other commenters are fucking vile, sheepblowing lepers with a penchant for extreme stupiditititityness. Oh, and POOP!]

I *hates* when I have to actually go to one of these sites to "get it" (bleh!)...but at least it was not an unannounced link to get me there (which sometimes happens) - But for some reason I find it hard to give two shakes about WHY Jeff (or his supporters) are aggrieved for him.

Doesn't keep me up nights either. But I still find it hard not to take a swipe at them.
Its such damn low hanging fruit in the wingersphere.

But you don't understand, he had to post their work information! And it wasn't the first time he has done it either... anyone remember a joke April Fools website hosted at Roxanne's? He outed her, but took it down later.
BECAUSE HE IS THE VICTIM!!!!
And a fuckin wanker. :)

by the way, what the hell happened? to get to the point of putting up someone's personal info and then abiding by a commenter who alludes to sexual gratification vis a vis a 2 year old? i'm really not understanding how even the most heated discussion regarding literary anything could boil over into what it seems to have.
what the hell is going on, something seems very amiss in blogtopia (y!sctp)

Ever seen a five year old completely trash their bedroom because mom wouldn't let them do something?
That's pretty much Pasty's maturity level. Thers was giving him a righteous whomping on his "authorial intent" stupidity and Pasty's level of rage just became ungovernable. He threw a tantrum and trashed Thers and Mary in the bargain.
The Klonopin may've contributed, but mostly its just that Pasty has the emotional maturity of a five year old.

For all the paste eaters who are reading this blog:
I will be respectful on blogs that have a polite tone and discuss intellectual issues. I will not discuss personal issues on those threads. This is very confusing to some people.
However, I do not have multiple opinions about Jeff Goldstein.
I believe he is a man without honor.
Jeff Goldstein reposted the private information of two of my friends on his blog. This was after he had agreed to remove that information. Removing the information was the ethical and the right thing to do.
After other commenters, not under the control of Thers offended Jeff, he repeatedly posted their private information on the web.
So please do not expect me, while speaking to my friends on a blog such as this one, to hide my true feelings about evil actions.

Wow, you guys still miss the fucking point. So will it be okay if I out Dogtown then?

RE: the point of the link: there are plenty of conservative members of the academy, in fact, though it is true that study and historical perspective tend to make someone liberal. It's not indoctrination, it's seeing in various contexts the effects of the vicious social darwinism they cling to so tenaciously. That someone could go through a decade of education and fail to see, for example, the dangers of the colonial project, why it's not necessarily wise to plow into a sovreign country even if their government sucks... well, it seems not so much that their boy went "off the reservation" as that he's willfully blind, that he failed to learn even the most basic lessons of history and culture. They see themselves, I think, as hard-headed realists, as sort of Rousseauian conservatives. But Rousseau spoke of a social contract. What they're doing is something quite different and honestly, utterly averse to many social codes, including the ones to which they claim to adhere.

So will it be okay if I out Dogtown then?
Go ahead. They've already as much as said they don't care, so do it.
Posted by: BlakNo1 | Jun 3, 2006 9:30:37 AM
Frankly, I could care less. And unless dogtown has a blog full of words that he's embarrassed to be publically associated with, I don't see what his cause of concern is.
But you miss the point, Todd. It isn't outing when information is publically available. You'll notice that the very first post on PW by "WhoisThersites" was full of those funny little things we call hyperlinks.
Andy and/or Mary outed themselves, and you helped along with your fellow Atriots! Now you're whining about it?
Because Andy can no longer fling shit anonymously... How utterly depressing for them. And for you. It's sad when filthy little dreams die, isn't it?
So, how is that IP hunt coming along? We really wanted to know who posted that nasty comment that Thirsty posted.
Posted by: Pablo | Jun 3, 2006 9:32:40 AM
If it is important to you that you remain anonymous, buy a solar panel and move to Idaho. I could give you some introductions.
This whole business is moving me into the "no anonymity" camp. Some people use "handles" that are essentially nicknames; I have never used anything but my name, or a nickname that I've used since I've been posting. None of those options actually conceals anything. All of the people I've encountered who stoop to ad hominem arguments, irrelevant personal insulsts ("paste eater"), and general vicious nastiness hide behind pseudonyms, and get really nasty when that veil is pierced.
Have you ever considered being, y'know, polite? Displaying integrity, defined as "displaying the same face to all interlocutors"? People who do that don't need pseudonyms, and being unkind to them is clearly unjust regardless of whether you agree with their opinions or not.
Oh, and Mohammad was right about one thing: there are no more prophets. That means you ain't one, bub, and disagreeing with you does not make the one disagreeing anathema. "You're wrong" is not an insult unless you want to make it one.
Regards,
Ric

He seemed to shut up pretty fucking quickly when we noted we had his work location. Odd, that.
It isn't outing when information is publically available.
You are a fucking stupid tool. It is outing. Thers was pretty fucking anonymous, as was his wife. But when your buddy couldn't win an argument about GODDAMNED LITERARY THEORY, you panty sniffers went around and pieced together information about him and dragged his wife into it. There was no need to do that at all, and it did, in fact, violate the spirit and letter of that stupid fucking Online Integrity pledge that Jeffy's so proud of.
Have you ever considered being, y'know, polite?
So because I use the word "fuck" my friends aren't entitled to not have their information plastered over at Pasty's hate site? Golly, that's a great goddamned moral code you got there.
I am polite most of the time. My mommy raised me proper. But I don't give a shit about namecalling. I do care about jackasses going around and digging up stuff for no reason other than to intimidate.
Why else would you buttsniffing morons do something like that? What purpose was there in the context of a debate about theory? Oh, Thers said a naughty word! Oh, he called Jeff a "paste-eater"! Oh my, the sky is certainly falling, innit?
You guys are jerkburgers, dicks, assholes, fuckwads, sheepblowers, moronic dipshits and just stupid, vile creatures in all ways.

Posted by: NTodd | Jun 3, 2006 9:52:25 AM
Ah, blistering expostulation in the morning. So charming. <fx: yawn> It's so easy to be a smug bastard when your interlocutor is busy immolating himself.
A word to you about insults: a statement is either true or false. If false, it belongs in the same category as cloud formations and cow farts -- the centered person simply ignores it. If true, either the target can do something about it or not. If the target can do something he should take it as advice, regardless of any ill will behind it. If the target can do nothing about it, the statement itself is simply ill-mannered, and says much more about the accuser than about the accused.
And as long as we're on math theory, consider the commutative law. If A=B, then B=A.
Regards,
Ric

The only one "abiding by a commenter who alludes to sexual gratification vis a vis a 2 year old" is [Thers]. It was posted on his blog. [Thers] also repeated the comment several times which is very creepy. Furthermore, he never would provide the isp. Which leaves most people to believe [Thers] was the author of the vile comment.

That's nice, dear. Now go play in fucking traffic.
The only one "abiding by a commenter who alludes to sexual gratification vis a vis a 2 year old" is [Thers].
Uh, no. He was shaken by a comment directed toward his daughter. You guys talk of civility and then pull that shit? Fuck you.

Jeff Goldstein's blog title "Protein Wisdom" and his paste-eating go together nicely. I'm sure he has other sources for his "Protein Wisdom", other than paste. Probably polishing Bush's knob is another source of "Protein Wisdom" for him.

You're right in that some people think you were the anonymous poster of the creepy comment. Slice and dice it anyway you want but it is more than odd a father would keep repeating such a comment and not reveal the isp.

The problem, of course, is that neither you (NTodd) nor NYMary is a liberal. As we say 'round here, you just found the hat.
A liberal is a person who believes that others, even the despised, has something to contribute and should be allowed to do so. A liberal believes that social class, education, wealth, race, and the like are not necessarily barriers to worth or intelligence. This turns out to be an incredibly cost-effective attitude, which is why the so-called "right" or "capitalists" adopted it. Merrill Lynch has done more to see that the workers own the means of production than any Leftist, and Nike has done more to provide for the uplift of the poor than the entire SWP and Communist Parties combined.
The Left, on the other hand, adopted the Leninist/Trotskyist concept of "cadre" or "vanguard of the Proletariat" -- an elite whose studies of theory and self-evident Goodness serve to lead the masses to Paradise. Nobles, in other words. Fabianism with the serial numbers filed off. We are supposed to bow to the superior wisdom of NTodd and NYMary because they are, well, superior, in exactly the same way that Louis Bourbon or John George of Saxony were "superior". Bow and tug the forelock, peon.
NYMary is particularly illustrative. She erects a bigoted stereotype of "conservatives" that hasn't been current in half a century (to the extent it ever had any validity), and rails against it. Search-and-replace the political terms with racial ones, and her screed(s) could be taken verbatim from front-porch conversation over beer in any small town in Mississippi circa, say, 1959.
I'm a liberal. Jeff G is a liberal. George W. Bush is a liberal. You guys are cramped, bigoted elitists with an exaggerated sense of your own adequacy, existing in an artificial world supported by the wealth created by industrial society. That society supports you despite the fact that you produce nothing of use, because it is ingrained that keeping an academic class around is a mark of sophistication and style. What makes you so bitter is that the free ride may be coming to an end; pure decoration with no functional purpose is no longer in style, and the next model of Juggernaut may not have heavy chrome or tail fins.
Now you'll have to excuse me. I have cows to chase and fences to build.
Regards,
Ric

I believe the post at the now deleted metacomments entitled "That's it" said "I'm going to Blogger tomorrow. Then we'll know."
But we already know. I'd have hunted the SOB that said something like that about my daughter down post haste.
Thirsty simply keeps repeating the comment and whining about victimhood. You, Thisrty, are a liar, a coward and an unmasked poseur. Deal with it.
I believe geoduck2 would be appreciative if you'd refrain from threatening incest.
Posted by: Pablo | Jun 3, 2006 12:14:36 PM
heehee. Lots of words signifying nada.
W is a liberal.
As to this free ride we've all had, in part he is correct. We grew complacent in the 90's and didn't pay attention to the gathering storm, figuring it would just burn itself out. In that we were wrong. We should have been fighting the extreme right wing from the git go.
Posted by: ql in ny | Jun 3, 2006 12:14:52 PM
Wow, "Ric" convinced me!
That he should stick to chasing cows and building fences. Obviously he thinks they make good neighbors.
If "Ric" is a liberal, I'll gladly claim the title "progressive" and leave liberal to him. No, I don't think name-calling and mud-slinging is "liberal" or "enlightening." But to rail against someone else doing it while doing it yourself is not exactly sophisticated thought, or even advanced irony.
Nor is it enough to claim your opponent is wrong simply because you say so, but that's Ric's argument in a nutshell. Which conveniently ignores the issue at hand, which is the obscene and pedophilic comment made about Mary and Thers' daughter, and the attempt to intimidate them both by publishing their private information, with the hope it would damage their careers.
I see all sorts of excuses for that sandbox behavior here. What I see in Ric's comment, is simply a sandbox with a graduate school vocabulary. But still no more understanding of logic and argument than one expects to find on a playground.
So it all stays in the same place: somebody needs to tell the children to "play nice."

I thought Godlstein was part of the academic class, no? And George Bush is hardly liberal, except when it comes to handing money out to already-wealthy elites. I'm confused by the bigot statement - making English the "oficial" language of the US is somehow inclusive? A ban on gay marriage is inclusive? Roy Moore is a liberal, too, right?
Yet, I'm somehow a bigot for... what? For wanting people to have a living wage? For wanting people to have honest access to polling areas on Election Day? For wanting my nation to guarantee that people have access to health care, regardless of their income or social status?
I'm not part of the academic class but even I can envision a world (or at least a nation) that's better than what GWB and the Republicans are delivering right now. I really couldn't give a flying rat's ass about Goldstein - but his intellectually dishonest, left-handed appeal to authority in his debate with Thers was immature, at best. His re-publishing of their employment information was unnecessary, calculated to intimidate, and shows a level of egoism that must horrify any compassionate person.
All he had to say was, "Thers, I think you're wrong but I don't want to debate this topic with you anymore." I would have been happy to let Goldstein drift off to oblivion and take his drooling hordes with him.

There is a deep strain amongst the petit bourgiose that it's fine to talk about the most obscene things, so long as the language used is suitably polite. This comes from their desperation to ape what they percive as the behaviour of their betters.
Fuck that noise, you pathetic sheep.

Mr. Geo told me not to post that last one.
But damn Bourdieu works well as an analysis of this nonsense. (symbolic violence, the effort to silence someone, ect.)
Every time a civil discussion begins on Jeff's literary technique, he trys to blow up that conversation with personal attacks. That is exactly what happened both on the Flow and over Memorial Day weekend.
I think it's really interesting that he starts these little blog wars over the weekend. What's that about? More time to blog war? Less monitoring?

Jeff whom?
Anyone favoring that Ace of Spades website has a lot of nerve accusing anyone else of being decorative, elitist, a useless wanker, etc. i spent a hundred years there one late morning and could practically hear the snot-and-bile dripping from the authors' voice(s). yet another overbred parsnip who will never get over his bitterness at not being as clever or relevant as PJ O'Rourke.
