Kinda Lame Ride
Rather slow today, but at least I got on the bike.
Whenever I go riding I usually have a goal in mind, as well as a "stretch" and sometimes a "super stretch" goal. This afternoon I wanted to get to Maple Syrup Hill (you can probably guess why I named it thusly), thought I might go to the next hill over, Deep Breath Hill (afterward it's a looooong, steep hill that's fun and scary), and toyed with the idea of doing my usual Cambridge loop (~20 miles). In the end I turned around at my original milestone because I just wasn't enjoying the ride all that much--my legs were doing fine, but even with the sun it was wicked cold and the crosswinds were awful.
So I ended up only doing 7.5 miles at a plodding 14.7mph. Tomorrow's supposed to be a little warmer with a chance of rain, but I plan on hitting the road and stretching myself just a little more. Always a bit slow-going at the beginning of the season for me.
Regardless, I feel pretty good. My body's finally waking up after a very long, deep hibernation.

Bravo, sir. Bravo. I think it's terrific that you're back on the bike.
And now your yoga tip for the day: Each day presents its own challenges, so don't beat yourself up because you didn't accomplish 100% of what you'd envisioned before you set out.
Easier said than done. I know.

Well, there's another 7.5 miles off the round trip to Chicago.

Good for you! 7.5 Miles sounds like a lovely spring ride.
The last time I tried to ride a bicycle - my butt hurt like heck. Does anybody else have this problem? And what does one do about it? I used to love bicycle riding.
(The last time I rode on a horse - I had the same problem.)

Oh - I skimmed over the cross-winds. Now I'm impressed! I guess I'm lazy - but 7.5 miles sounds great to me!

geo - my butt generally gets sore on rides longer than 40 miles. I've got a gel seat, and gel-padded bike shorts that help quite a bit, though.

Well, I got on the bike yesterday and today. First I had to take the ten bags of dirty diapers and other assorted trash that I had been "storing" in the garage this winter to the dump so I could get the bike out. Have I said too much??
My bike has one of those one-wheel attachments for the older kid to ride, and attached to that is the bike trailer for the younger kid to ride in. So our whole family rode into town yesterday for breakfast and errands. And we rode in again today to see the local youth ballet production of "Coppelia."
I haven't clocked it, but my guess is it's less than a mile round trip! But there is one hill! As far as speed, well, my fastest ever recorded (solo) was 43mph. But I was too fascinated with the gadget, so I pitched it.
I think bicycling is one of the top 5 physical pleasures in life.

No bike for me, but I walked to do the grocery shopping. It *was* damn windy. Then the dog chewed through his leash when he was tied at the store, and ran about trying to get hit by cars. He looked to be having a jolly good time too. Bastard. He even had the nerve to lick his lips requesting the cookie he gets for good behavior. I was in there under 10 minutes.
Now we are at the stage where I repeatedly shove the broken leash in his face and he averts his eyes. I put the leash on the edge of the bed last night so he would not try and get up. A massive 1" high wall of shame. Damn kids make my hair turn white.

That's too cool for school!

Look, Mommy, I didn't get hit! Gimme a cookie!
