All Washed Up
Whew, what a wet ride! I had to get a bunch of things done this morning and early afternoon, so couldn't bike before it started to rain, and I got drenched. I had to go because it'd been three days since my last ride and I was jonesin', plus it's not clear just how much biking I'm going to get in next week when I'm in Marlboro.
I made it to Mailbox Hill and since I was already soaked, I figured I might as well go all the way to Deep Breath Hill--not like I was going to get any wetter or any drier! While I was pedaling I started thinking about other wet rides: my first bike without training wheels when I was six, and I rode around in circles in our driveway faster and faster until I wiped out (I screamed bloody murder, and screamed even louder when NTodd's Pa's Wife applied the CamphoPhenique to my wounds); a school trip to Kelly's Island in Put-in-Bay when we biked around the island and got caught in a downpour, and our tents leaked (I got horribly sick right after that); a ride with my friend Rik when we were down in Marlboro doing lab work, and we found a great place to ride that had experienced a lot of flooding (the mosquitoes ate us alive and my shoes took days to dry).
It was actually a pretty fun ride, despite the cold and wet conditions. I felt like I could've done my ~20 mile loop, but my hands were pruning and my feet were soaked and starting to not feel good, so I turned around at my milestone and ended up doing 8.6 miles at 14.8mph. Tomorrow's supposed to be chillier, but dry, so I might go for Cambridge to start getting some real distance riding under my belt.

Does that great general store still exist in "downtown" Cambridge? The one on the right as you travel north on rte 15?

Rainy rides in Vermont. I did some three day loop with some fella. One day, comin' out of the hills, we were goin' so fast and could barely see with all the rain and mud in our eyes. Pulled into some little town, headed straight for the laundrymat. Put all the wet clothes in, had enough dry clothes to be decent. Found a nice diner and had delicious food. Got our dry clothes just as the sun came up and rode out of town.
We've got some good ridin' here in Massachusetts, but not like you got up there in Vermont.

eva - sorry it was late! :-)
flory - I might not ride today though, unless it really does get up to 40. I've got too much crap to do before I head down to Marlboro tomorrow. But I am definitely bringing my bike with me!
muddy - yup, still there. That's where I used to pick up trash stickers, but they stopped carrying them and now I go to the Mobil Mart in Jeff.
ina - that sounds like a cool tour! The hills here do make the rides interesting--some are in Tour de France categories of steep grades and knock wood, but I've never taken a header when going 50mph downhill.

Good to hear you're back on the bike -- we're getting ready for 170 miles of a MS150 (Florida's really flat) which will be like 20 miles of up and down. If you're ever in FLA, we'll get you a bike. Plus it never rains in the spring (but roads are closed for wild fires).
