I Agree With George Will Again

It's not completely unheard of.  George Will and I have, up to this point, agreed on precisely two things: the Framers wisely designed our government so it would have difficulty doing anything; the Designated Hitter rule in the American League is the work of Satan.

Now I can add something else to the list:

[C]ivil wars do not usually begin with an identifiable event, such as the firing on Fort Sumter, or proceed to massed, uniformed forces clashing in battles like Shiloh. Iraq's civil war -- which looks more like Spain's in the 1930s -- began months ago.
...
Conditions in Iraq have worsened in the 94 days that have passed since Iraq's elections in December. And there still is no Iraqi government that can govern. By many measures conditions are worse than they were a year ago, when they were worse than they had been the year before.

Three years ago the administration had a theory: Democratic institutions do not just spring from a hospitable culture, they can also create such a culture. That theory has been a casualty of the war that began three years ago today.

He's still a pompous ass, but if even George Will sees the truth, Bush is in trouble.

It really is frightening, and at the same time sort of swell, when one agrees with the swill written by Will. Norquist jumped ship over the warrantless spying and William F Buckley scurried away because of Iraq and Plame.
It's a Good Thing.

That miserable SOB stole that "you don't always get a Fort Sumter" line from me. Or so I'd like to think, except for it being so damn blazingly obvious you would think everybody could see it.

Will's major accomplishment is to make me embarrassed over being a Cub fan. It's funny (in a tragic sort of way) to watch him week by week on "This Week" as he gets ever more daring in slamming Bush while fully aware that the man is a chain around his neck pulling him ever deeper into the ocean's depths.

(BTW this comment box is only half visible so if there are any egregious misspellings please blame them on my not being able to see what's under the ad column on the right side of the page. Thank you.)
