Cleaning
Remember my office? Well, I'm cleaning it. Stop laughing--I really am, and Sam's helping!

Sitting on the only open space on the sofa in my office, next to a precariously balanced pile of books and god knows what else.

Somehow he was able to extricate a mini box of Altoids buried under that tower and push it onto the nest I made him to hang in when I'm podcasting. All without knocking down the tower and killing himself!
Pretty soon Sam will be able to sleep on the sofa when I podcast! Okay, back to work...

Maybe Sam was trying to tell you something with the Altoids?

Yay NTodd! Keep up the good work :-)

flory - nah, my breath smells like catfood, just like his.
Kath - I got about 1/3 of the office done, including the entire sofa (wow, you can sit on it!). So far I've recycled course material from a one-off I did for the State of NY in 2003, a bunch of lab exercises I developed in 1999 for a course we no longer teach, graded tests from 2004, and all sorts of other stuff about as useful. And I found about 5 bucks worth of change literally under the sofa cushions.
Not only that, but I've also removed a significant amount of my sprawl from around the house, including in Stef's office. Won't she be surprised when she gets home tomorrow. She might call the cops.

Oo, cute - looks like Sam's picked up the tidying fever from you.

Let me recommend ditching that logic textbook I see in that pile, NTodd. It's gotten panned at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Did you happen to catch the piece on GM crops in todays Cal Rec? A particularly bad piece of journalism worth a rant I'm sure. I just sounded off over at Newsache.

Thea - he gave up pretty quickly. I was making too much noise and raising a lot of dust.
Michael - it's an old textbook from my PL150 class frosh year of college (1987)! I find it's a good quick reference, although I do rely more on the Internet these days since I want to link to definitions. I still have most of my philo and Russian books, as well as a smattering of other texts from school. Hence our overflowing bookshelves and my messy office.
mg - I hadn't seen that. Thanks for the headsup!

No prob, NTodd. Someone needs to watch that paper. Someone might mistake it for reading material instead of lining for the cat litter some day. Next thing you know people will believe what they say. Then what kind of a kingdom would this be?

You young whippersnapper! I started graduate school in 1987. I also still have my basic logic text, tucked away on a shelf at home somewhere. But I can't remember who wrote it, or I'd look it up and check its reviews, too.
Books are my friends :-)

What an inspiring, homey scene! You should send a copy to David Brooks at once.
My favorite part is the drift of cat hair embedded in the sofa slipcover. My whole house looks like that.
