Whoohoo!   Finally won our first match of the season: 15-13, 15-10, 11-15.  It was really a wonder to behold, playing an excellent team.

We were short a player during the initial dozen or so points, but then R made it and we figured out an excellent rotation, so were able to muster a wonderful comeback from 8-13.  Next game we held the lead wire-to-wire, which was shocking since we often suffer a 2nd game letdown.  We saved the letdown for the 3rd, when we spotted the other team 8 points--we were down as much as 11-2 at one point, but still struggled back and almost pulled it off anyway.

The difference this week?  Besides finding the right line up, it was almost like the rest of the team had an andrenaline transfusion from me.  Everybody played very aggressively and I was actually much less cranked and wild than usual.  We also only had 2 bad serves the entire match--turns out you score a lot more if you get your serves over the net!

I didn't have any monster spikes--my single attempt went long, in fact.  Instead, I surprised myself with a lot of touch shots, controlled bumps and sets, and a bunch of saves.  It's too bad that I'm on the road next week (it's mid-term break at Champlain, so I'm doing a corporate gig down in Marlboro, MA), as are a couple other teammates, just as we're finding our mojo.

Anyway, we're 1-3 on the season, 4-8 in overall games.
