Ms. Maglalang Responds
A number of flippant liberals are e-mailing me now with calls for all Filipinos to be interned. Grow up. The safety of the president and the country was put at risk, and it may have been due in part to the blinders of political correctness and complacency. If it means now that the White House will be applying extra scrutiny to naturalized Americans of Filipino descent working at the top levels of government and in the military, well, yes, I support that. It's obviously overdue. And, as I argued in my last book, it's just one small step towards the kind of national security profiling we should have introduced aggressively after 9/11. But didn't.
Why couldn't they just, you know, apply the same appropriate scrutiny to EVERYBODY who is in charge of the president and this country's safety?
And leave it to the wingers to be in reactive mode and fight the last war: 'political correctness'? Give me a fucking break. It's the same backward-looking attitude that blinds them to current reality and makes them incapable of anticipating new circumstances and adapting.
"Oh shit, who knew that a hurricane aftermath would be just like a terrorist attack? Good thing a major earthquake won't be anything like either of those situations..."
"Holy crap, now we have to worry about Filipinos? Who next? White Christians? Nah..."
"The horses got away? Quick! Lock the barn door..."
Please, somebody get a handle on our OODA loop before it's too late.

Extra scrutiny? Is that what happened to Japanese Americans during WWII? I suppose she wouldn't mind she and her kids being put in an internment camp until the "War on Terror" is over?
On a seperate note isn't that woman who was an administrative assistant to Rove and Norquist also a Phillipine American? Better round her up too....

I think the real issue about this spy scandal is what was going on in Cheney's office for this guy to believe he had free rein to do what he did. The story isn't so much about whether he's Filipino as it is who's office he got his information from. Obviously he didn't have the same opportunities when Gore was there.

Hear hear.
It is high time that all entrances and exits to the WH be secured from unauthorized entry. I hear the back doors near Scott McClellan's office in particular permit free access. Bear in mind that I call for a top to bottom review. It may be a painful process, butplugging any gaping holes we find is mandatory.
