I Oppose The Miers Nomination
NZBear has set up a tracking page to gauge support for Harriet Miers in the blogosphere. If SCOTUS nominations were up to bloggers, she wouldn't get within 10 miles of the bench.
Anyhoo, I figured I should go on record about opposing Miers. You might recall that I originally wasn't against her being named to succeed O'Connor. And while I haven't been posting about developments since Bush announced his pick, of course I've been thinking about this. Now I'm firmly in the Oppose camp.
I didn't mind her not having served on the bench before, whereas with Roberts, I was not happy with a Chief Justice with little time on the bench or life experience--a generational appointment to guide the ultimate arbiter of justice in our nation requires something more. But as more info about Miers' complete lack of street cred, ability and thoughtfulness has come out (e.g., that questionnaire), I cannot accept her nomination and must join the chorus of rightwingers wondering WTF the president was smoking.

I support the Miers nomination as the best chance we have left to overturn Roe v. Wade.

I guess you're now comfortable with the fact that Reid suggested her? Anyway, not surprising that you want to allow the government to stick its nose in women's bodies...

I'm not comfortable with either proposition - that's just the best we are going to get right now - I too wish people would simply not kill other people, but since we do not live in a paradise any longer, we have to deal with reality as it is.
