Dell Hell II - The Wrath Of NTodd
The LCD panel hinges on my POS Latitude D600 have lost structural integrity. I now really do officially hate Dell--the saga continues...

Regrettably, NTodd, that's not just a Dell problem. Another photographer friend has a Sony VAIO laptop; just two weeks ago, the right hinge began coming, um, unhinged. She claims it's her fault for occasionally picking it up by one corner of the display, but I think the hinges ought to be sturdy enough to withstand a fair amount of strain.
Dell and Sony are both definitely off my list when I eventually buy a laptop.

Sounds like time for a new LCD panel on blogger ethics.

It's definitely not just a Dell phenom. About a thousand years ago Toshiba Satellite systems did the same thing. I've got an old PIII-450 model that I'm about to put on eBay whose hinges hold the thing up just fine when you've got it at about a 120 degree angle with the keyboard...but much more or less and it flops open or shut. Irritating indeed for a road warrior. I'm hoping somebody'll want it for their elementary age kid to type and surf on.

Oh, I know it's not just a Dell problem in general.
But damn it, I've had this laptop for 5 months--replacing my dead 7-month old laptop that Dell spent 3 weeks not fixing--and the hinges fall apart after even less abuse than the 5-year old laptop I'm temporarily using endured? Shit, I dropped this fucker on the goddamned concrete floor of the BTV airport garage and it still has structural integrity.
Piss poor design and/or QA over at Dell, combined with declining support makes NTodd unhappy.
