Christmas In July
Wow! I came home from running errands and found a package from Amazon waiting for me containing 3 items off my Wishlist:
- The Tripods Boxed Set
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban DVD
- The LOTR - ROTK Special Edition DVD
A big, big, big thanks to a generous reader in New York! Since Amazon doesn't provide e-mail addresses, I guess I'll have to revive the ancient art of writing real thank you letters...

How wonderful!. No, I wasn't a gift giver, but would love to ask a question: when you titled this post "Christmas in July", did you have in mind a Preston Sturges movie, or it is an American saying (I am not a native speaker). Totally brilliant, as usual. Separately, how old are the Katz?

Wow, I remember reading the Tripod series back in elementary school, they were some of my favorite books. I need to read them again, it's been years.
And eva, "Christmas in July" probably started out as a direct reference to the movie, but it's become a sort of generic expression over time.

Ah the Tripod series! I read the first two books and LOVED them. Then when I went to read the third it was GONE! This was in the days before you could easily find books. (We used to tie onions to our belts which was the style in those days)
Anyway it was YEARS before I got to finally read the last book in the series when I found it at a used book store.
Did you ever think of some of the interesting parallels? 1)A group of malevolent beings take over the world using TV 2) The beings know that the youth can't be as easily controlled as the adults so they are the ones to watch because they might rebel.
3) The are working to change the world to meet their needs and don't care about the rest of the beings in the world if they kill them in the process.
One of the kid's who doesn't go along, but bravely risks his life is French!
I'm always looking for parallels whenever I can, maybe I'm pushing this one.
