Promise Of America
Faithful readers know that I've long been disgusted with the Democratic Party's inability to come up with a "constructive program" or something like Contract with America to help communicate their agenda. God bless Harry Reid:
While the Republican Senate continues to be focused on seven radical judges in their pursuit for absolute power, they have failed to lead on the issues that matter to American families. With gas prices soaring, thousands of veterans preparing to return from Iraq and Afghanistan and the economy struggling, Republicans continue their quest for absolute power. The budget that the Republicans passed reflects the wrong choices that put special interests above the people’s interests. Democrats are focused on America’s agenda and will continue to fight for the Promise of America.
REPUBLICANS Back an Energy Bill That Will Do Nothing to Lower Prices, Consumption or Increase Production...
· DEMOCRATS Are Working to Provide Immediate Price Relief to Consumers...
REPUBLICANS Rejected Providing Support for the Perkins Loan Program...
· DEMOCRATS Fight to Provide New Opportunities for America’s Young People...
REPUBLICANS Rejected Increasing the Minimum Wage...
· DEMOCRATS Work to Expand Economic Opportunity for American Workers...
REPUBLICANS Rejected Medical Care for Veterans...
· DEMOCRATS Fight to Protect the Rights of Our Veterans...
REPUBLICANS Rejected Living Within Our Budget Means..
· DEMOCRATS Are Fighting to Restore Fiscal Discipline for a Sound Future...
Yeah, baby! What I like is the point-counterpoint approach, the focus on 5 issues and the symmetry of 10 items, like in the Bill of Rights. I also think they've chosen the right things to fight for. I hope they communicate this far and wide.
Oh, and I love this: Reid said today that Frist's bogus "compromise" on the filibuster issue was a "big wet kiss to the far right". Sounds almost..Deanesque!

One of the blogs recently detailed a "Manifesto" and I thought it might be better to call it a "Covenant with America" (not "contract," which is what the Republicans termed it). Covenant is a biblical term that means a promise to be kept, I think. I like the idea of keeping promises to the American people.
