Blah
Don't you hate it when you've forgotten what it's like to feel well? My sore throat came back yesterday morning, waned, and is back today along with other symptoms of impending doom. I really should take better care of myself--Stef's always telling me I need to eat more veggies.
I've got some course development work to do but I'm taking a sick day to nap and watch movies. Right now I have an increasingly aching head, so I probably won't be blogging much (until the Advil kicks in).
In the meantime, be on the lookout for evil kitten-eating cyborgs.

I really have to wonder if that FAQ accurately reflects the questions people have been asking.
At least on the individual threads the question is more one of clearing up the (whorish) motives of many of the presenters. Doesn't that elephant need to leave the room first?

Sorry you feel bad. I just got over an allergy-driven sick spell.

Sorry you're feeling out of sorts. Health is a subject close to my heart. Forgive me; I must proselytize.
The ease of procuring food, and the ease of survival itself, has fooled us into thinking we don't need to pay much attention to what we eat. But we still have essentially the same nutritional needs as we did during our hunter/gatherer days. Agriculture ruined everything. Our diets became less diverse. Today most people have a vitamin or mineral deficiency of one kind or another. So we get sick a lot. And the RDA amounts you see on food labels are only the minimum amounts needed to prevent deficiency--the feds don't bother to tell us how to achieve optimal health.
But I digress. Here are some unsolicited tips:
1. Drink water. Lots of it. 64 ounces a day.
2. Avoid salt and refined sugar. When you crave sugar, eat fruit.
3. Eat plenty of vegetables, raw when possible. Carrots are especially healthful. When cooking veggies, steam them instead of frying them. Eat lots of leafy greens.
4. Eat whole grains. Brown rice instead of white.
5 (the hardest one for me). Avoid empty carbs, like chips and pretzels and bread. Snack on raw almonds instead. Almonds are the most nutritious nut. And they got lotsa fiber.
6. If you eat a lot of dairy, try to cut down. Eat yogurt instead of cheese. Get the plain, sugar-free yogurt and add flavoring yourself (like fruit juice or maple syrup).
7. Avoid caffeine. Sorry.
8. Get plenty of sleep and exercise.
9. Buy this book.
10. Tell me to mind my own business.
To your health!

Hey! You forgot my favorite food groups fat, caffeine, salt, and sugar.
Darn.
Get well, NTodd.

Call your doctor, Todd. Don't mess with repeated sore throats. Untreated strep bacteria can attack your kidneys and your heart. NOT a pretty picture. :-)

What Alex said.

I'm fairly certain it isn't strep, but just my sinuses. I've had experience with this before and gone to the doctor only to be told that it's not strep and, well...there's nothing to do about it but drink fluids and rest. The fluids I got--the rest, not at the moment.
But thanks for the concern!

No fever?
The normal course for a cold is for the sore throat to occur at the beginning and then go away unless you get laryngitis. (okay, duh!)
If a sore throat returns, it means,
1)you've reinfected yourself with your toothbrush or your hands around your face (my guess in your case)
2)new infection from a new source (my second guess)
3)secondary bacterial infection
4)strep throat all along but didn't know it
5)throat irritation from post nasal drip from sinusitis or a sinus infection (your guess)
6)allergies superimposed on a cold (unlikely when it below f-ing ZERO!)
Every time it happens you need to go through the mental gymnastics of ruling out strep. Fortunately, strep usually produces a fever > 101.
Don't worry, be happy....

Ah, so I should stop brushing my teeth? I'm on it... ;-)

That IS an option. One that Stef and others would appreciate is for you to rinse your toothbrush really well and dry in on a towel, then put it someplace where it can easily air dry...;-) Are you improving yet?

Feeling much better, thanks. But now even the dog thinks my breath stinks. Maybe I'll try your other suggestion... ;-)
