I Have A Theory

Reuters:

Sales of existing U.S. homes rose unexpectedly to a record high in November and prices surged as low mortgage rates fueled home-buying, a trade association report showed on Wednesday.

I'm no economist, but my guess is that Bush's clever economic strategy of driving liberals to Belize, Canada and elsewhere is the root cause.  I call this the Dubya Paradox (applicable to economics, foreign affairs, healthcare, etc): the worse things get, the better things are.

Belize is too hot even for me. Stella did some anthropological work there summer before last, and came home downright dehydrated and more than a few pounds lighter. But I do like your concept of the Dubya Paradox.
