Butterfingers
The US launched Operation Probably Not The Last Counter-insurgency Operation today to root out Iraqi rebels in the lead up to the scheduled January 30th election, which might be the final penultimate1 turning point along the way to a peaceful Middle East, just like the fall of Baghdad, Bush's announcement that the mission was accomplished, the deaths of Uday and Qusay Hussein, the capture of Saddam Hussein, and the handover of power from the Coalition Provisional Authority to Iyad Allawi's puppet regime all were. Military officials are pretty sure that some of the insurgents probably won't totally slip through their fingers this time. And next time, watch out!

~~oh, hell:
The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I’ve seen that road before
It always leads me her
Lead me to you door
The wild and windy night
That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
Crying for the day
Why leave me standing here
Let me know the way
Many times I’ve been alone
And many times I’ve cried
Any way you’ll never know
The many ways I’ve tried
But still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don’t leave me waiting here
Lead me to your door
But still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don’t leave me waiting here
Lead me to your door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Milestones don't matter if you're going in circles. And Bush's effort in Iraq is following exactly such a course.
(Oh, and how about "antepenultimate"? that one too?)
