Take That, WaPo
Rox Populi calls bullshit and fights the corporate takeover of blogdom with an "indy spirit" alternative to WaPo's totally lame and clueless Best Blogs thingy that I didn't qualify for even though I'm way better than Wonkette because they're poopyheads at the Post. Roxanne wisely nominated this very blog you're reading now for the Court Jester category.
Alas, I don't think I'll be able to beat out the competition: Norbizness of Harpy Funky Pinto Stucko Temporal Zone, Worshipping at the Altar of Mediocrity and Mad Kane. I'm going to pull a page out of the Bush play book and offer a sawbuck (in lieu of a tax cut) to every member of the celebrity panel that will make the final selection if they decide in my favor.
Regardless, it's an honor to be nominated and at least I get a spiffy new graphic to put in the sidebar!
ntodd
PS--I also should be nominated for the Big Non-blogrolling Moran [sic] category. I could swear I had RP on the roll. Swear! Didn't. Hopefully that doesn't DQ DM. My oversight has been corrected. My nearsightedness is uncorrectable by laser surgery. All rights reserved. Not valid in Montana or other states where prohibited by law. Do not taunt happy fun ball. I shouldn't have had coffee this morning.

What happens if I taunt happy fun ball? Sounds physically threatening...
The fact that WaPo is trying to judge the new 'blogging wave' is crap and makes me laugh. They need to focus on the quality of their reporting and making the reporters actually do the research and be accountable.
The strength of the blogs is that they offer their own personal opinion and reference worldwide news sources and is something that newspapers will not be able to mimic.
I believe we need to keep the journalists and the bloggers separate; they operate on two totally different planes. Besides reading newspapers, I go to the blog sites for news just because I know if someone says something biased or false, the others on the thread will reference several different sites to discredit him, or tear him apart just because he is wrong. But the main sources used in the discussions are still the various newspaper journalists and the news organizations. And we have the entire world to search out the truth, compare facts, discuss and expose bias.
I really feel that the net has been the more than expected force the neocons didn't forsee before they tried to take over the news media. It has given power to the common man and his voice more than any other thing. Information cannot be properly manipulated and spun before it is out on the net and exposed, torn apart, and discredited.
We aren't obediently drinking the Kool Aid anymore.
That's also why I freak out when I can't log on to Eschaton or my dsl provider has a 'problem'. I now see thought police and watchers everywhere, waiting to pull the plug to the only thing protecting our freedom of speech. In my darkest moods, I sometimes fear we are only a blog or two away from becoming a fascist state.

With all that hot air from my last post I meant to add, NTodd, that your blog is one of the best for the balance between humor, political insight, and soul-nurturing artistic photographs. You have a gift and I appreciate your voice.
Also, the repubs and independents who visit the site are good-humored and intelligent. (Weird but true.)
(You didn't even hold it against us when we misbehaved and threw the furniture around a bit on your site while you were out hunting wabbits..I mean bears.)
So pffft to WaPo and the other flaming gasbag newspapers who wish to control the net! Keep up the good work!

Hey! Who says you're not as good as them udder guys? I'll moiderise 'em! ;)
Oh well. If it makes you feel any better, I notice I didn't make the list in any category either, and I think I do a pretty good court jester - if I do have to say so myself.

Uh, I'm not really sure. They don't say exactly in the ad.

Thank you. I enjoy doing all of this, and I'm glad people like it.

I'll nominate you for the Wingers We Love category, even if you don't think the "winger" term applies!

Although it doesn't bother me much if Michele sweeps that one. ASV be cool.
[I think you may want to check your tags in that last comment, Todd... there's an unclosed HTML tag somewhere.]
