This Isn't Happening...
...is it?
A video posted Tuesday on an Islamic militant Web site showed a group affiliated with al Qaeda beheading an American contractor in Iraq, saying the death was revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers.
Good god. Expect the wingnuts to come out and say this is proof we need to be more brutal to our prisoners. Senator Inhofe can be their spokesperson:
I -- well, first of all, I regret I wasn't here on Friday. I was unable to be here. But maybe it's better that I wasn't, because as I watched the -- this outrage, this outrage everyone seems to have about the treatment of these prisoners, I was, I have to say -- and I'm probably not the only one up at this table that is more outraged by the outrage than we are by the treatment. The idea that these prisoners -- you know, they're not there for traffic violations. If they're in cell block 1-A or 1-B, these prisoners, they're murderers, they're terrorists, they're insurgents. Many of them probably have American blood on their hands. And here we're so concerned about the treatment of those individuals.
Once more with feeling: good god.

It wouldnt surprise me if it was staged using look-e-likes, just like the 'Fat' Osama 911 'confession'.
It's just to convenient that something like this should happen just in the nick of time to galvanize public support for our war crimes.

I admit to having similar thoughts; but I think there are too many details for this to be a phoney--they'd run the risk of being found out.

Sigh ... good god, indeed.

Well, Bush challenged al-Qaeda to a game of "can you top this?"
They responded.
I think it's time to SERIOUSLY consider the impeachment of the president. The grounds? "Nonfeasance of office".

As much as I distrust BushCo, I can't buy the idea this was staged. I can, however, get behind the idea of impeachment. These guys have only made our terrah problem worse in their arrogant, incompetent prosecution of all their wars. Today's events are Exhibit Z.

Gee, there hasn't been this much governmental outrage since....oh, I guess it was Janet Jackson flashing her breast during halftime. I figure that you have something on video before anyone in the Legislative branch notices (everyone now knows nobody in BushCo reads). It took 60 Minutes II to air the pictures to get them to (re)act to what was happening in the prison(s), and now with the beheadding, they're sure to kick it up a notch - or maybe not, if the unreleased stuff stays that way.

Having just watched the beheading video (I am absolutely not linking to it), which has me absolutely sick to my stomach, all I can say is we have got to stop this cycle of violence. We need to stop giving the jihadists an excuse to kill innocent people in such horrific ways. We need to stop killing and torturing people. We need out of Iraq now.

Stop the cycle of violence? But why? It's been working so very well for Israel...

Apparently we've been taking lessons from the Israelis. Too bad we're such good students.
